Gallery Project presents Nature Reperceived, a multi-media exhibit featuring 25 local, regional, and national artists who express their unique perspectives and viewpoints on the natural world. This exhibit runs from Wednesday, September 13 through Sunday, October 22. The opening reception is on Friday, September 15, from 6-9.

In this exhibit, artists address the shift that is occurring in our ideas about the natural world including the relationship between form and function, the mutual impact of scale and perception, the mutative force of new materials and synthesized structures, and conceptions of what is real and natural.

Some artists take a magnified look to reveal structures and systems beyond human perceptual fields. Others highlight specific elements to refocus attention. Some work from new vantage points to shift comprehension, or to represent a specific point of view. Their work addresses current cultural conversations which are inviting humans to reperceive nature and to relearn about ourselves in the process.

Life is serendipitous in its origins, pervasive in its reach, shared in its structures and functions, and opportunistic in its unfolding. The human species is a twig on evolution’s tree, only a few genes different from the field mouse. Like us, many animal species perceive, process, communicate, problem solve, and experience and express emotions.

We are enmeshed in an intricate web of relationships with Nature, engaged in a perpetual dialogue of mutual influence and reciprocity. Complex interdependencies exist within and among macro and micro systems and ecologies. We have witnessed the birth of stars and we have seen life proliferate in places we thought unsuitable to sustain life. Such observations have inexorably changed our view of the natural world.

Gallery Project is a fine art collaborative. Its mission is to provide a venue for contemporary art that is culturally aware, individualistic, courageous, and thought provoking. Artists representing a diverse range of visual arts curate and participate in its nine annual themed exhibits.

Gallery Project is located at 215 South Fourth Avenue in Ann Arbor. Gallery hours are: Tuesday thru Saturday, noon to 9; and Sunday, noon to 4. The gallery is closed on Mondays. For more information, call 734-997-7012 or visit the website at thegalleryproject.com.
