CONTEMPORARY INDIA

August 19 to September 20

Opening Reception: Friday, August 21, from 6-9.

Gallery Project presents Contemporary India, a multi-media exhibition featuring 17 artists from India and the India Diaspora.

This exhibition celebrates the work of contemporary artists who have responded to a diverse range of personal, political, economic and social issues in the world, but often with a distinct or layered reference to their cultural and familial ties with India.

The often-asked question of what defines a work of art as uniquely “Indian”, is challenged, as notions of home and homeland, borders and boundaries as well as formal methods and materials are continually revisited, redefined and renegotiated.

The exhibit opens at noon on Wednesday, August 19 and runs until 4pm on Sunday, September 20.  The reception is on Friday, August 21, from 6-9.

The exhibit is curated by Kathryn Myers, professor of art at The University of Connecticut.
