Read Press Release
Gallery Project presents Spirit, an exhibit featuring artists who
exalt in expressing the interior space of the soul in a post-modern
period of pluralism. The exhibit, curated by Detroit painter, Ed
Fraga, opens at noon on Wednesday, June 25 and continues through 4pm
on Sunday, August 3. The opening reception is Friday, June 28 from
6-9.
Exhibiting artists include Mary Ann Aitken, Joyce Brienza, Ed Fraga,
Scott Hocking, Frank Pahl, Tom Phardel, Terri Sarris, James Stevens
and Sharon Que.
Expression of the spiritual through works of art has been with mankind
throughout civilizations, from the Mayan Pyramids in Mexico to the
Lascaux caves in France. The artists chosen for “Spirit” have a common
love of materials to their respective aesthetics, whether expressed
through paint or sculpture. The painters focus on narrative imagery.
Each body of iconography finds a unique language to explore an
individualized vision of self.
The sculptors approach more monumental themes of community and
history. They reference past civilizations which communally express
collective belief in the transcendent.
If successful, the exhibit will stimulate a discourse on the role
artists play as visionaries in telling us something about ourselves as
the body human.
